Delaunay

El rumbo de la vida de Sonia se transforma por completo cuando encuentra al pintor Robert Delaunay, con quien se casa en 1911. Juntos emprenden una aventura artística que no es sino la investigación que lleva al cubismo un paso más allá a través del uso de los colores. A lo largo de su vida en común crean, de hecho, una simbiosis en la cual los papeles están bien divididos y al tiempo forman un todo sólido. El arte pictórico de Robert es la otra cara de las artes aplicadas de Sonia, aunque en muchos casos es ella quien toma la iniciativa, quien apura la investigación un paso más allá,


colcha que la artista Sonia Delaunay

cuando nace su hijo, Sonia se apresura a hacerle una colcha para la cuna con trozos de tela de colores, una especie de patchwork que es para muchos el origen de su modo de acercarse al arte.
Esa apuesta por las mal llamadas “artes aplicadas” tiene sus raíces en el movimiento Arts and Crafts inglés, donde una pintura no es superior al diseño de un vestido o un jarrón
